Panayiotopoulos syndrome (PS), like benign childhood epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes, is an idiopathic age-related focal seizure disorder. Although seizure prognosis is mostly favourable, subtle neuropsychological impairments are not rare. The authors performed a standardized neuropsychological assessment in 4 children with PS and marked activation of interictal epileptic discharges during sleep. We emphasize the importance of a neuropsychological evaluation in PS.
