This volume brings together a selection of papers presented at the eighth Conference of the American Association for Corpus Linguistics, held at Brigham Young University, Utah, in 2008. As the title suggests, and as the editors claim in their introduction, the aim of the volume is to answer the question “what are the current studies and new directions? Or, in other words: what’s hot in corpus linguistics in 2008/2009?” (p. 1). Four areas are identified, namely diachronic, function-oriented, register/genre-based and methodological applications.
