L’écriture de Lydia Flem, héritière « traductrice »

The autobiographical work of Belgian writer and analyst Lydia Flem, whose parents outlived deportation, is permeated by themes of grief, loss and separation. Inheriting a traumatic past that her parents only tacitly passed on to her, she finds in writing and analysis the opportunity of freeing herself from her family’s experience and starting a new life. Using the work of French essayist, translator and psychoanalyst Janine Altounian, we propose to compare Flem’s experience of writing and speaking about trauma with the act of translation.
