This paper investigates the possibility of using magnetic torquerods as attitude effectors in two scenarios. In the first one, when two reaction wheels only are available after failure of the other wheel(s) of the cluster, magnetic coils are used for recovering full actuation and three-axes controllability. In the second case, where no reaction wheel is left available and magnetorquers are the sole attitude effectors available, a two-step control logic is developed. The performance of this latter system is extensively studied also by means of Monte Carlo simulations for a population of 1000 test cases.

Abstract
This paper investigates the possibility of using magnetic torquerods as attitude effectors in two scenarios. In the first one, when two reaction wheels only are available after failure of the other wheel(s) of the cluster, magnetic coils are used for recovering full actuation and three-axes controllability. In the second case, where no reaction wheel is left available and magnetorquers are the sole attitude effectors available, a two-step control logic is developed. The performance of this latter system is extensively studied also by means of Monte Carlo simulations for a population of 1000 test cases.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
