Our paper aims to analyse two TV serials –Cuéntame cómo pasó on the Spanish side and Boris on the Italian one– within a discourse and interactional dimension. On one hand, we will see how linguistic items are employed to produce highly likely and typifying communication styles for the serials’ characters; on the other, how the language employed interacts with the situation context in order to build the meaning of what is expressed. In both serials the resemblance of the oral language traits to those employed in spontaneous speech is achieved in the following two ways: using stereotyped items from the oral dimension of Spanish and Italian languages, and through the interaction between language and context. Especially the second device allows the audience to catch the meaning also of what is not verbally expressed, without making it explicit. As a matter of fact, over-explicitation is commonly used in TV dramas though it is not typical of spontaneous speech.
