This contribution analyses the stress concentrations at the rounded edges of shaft–hub interference fits. An infinitely long hollow shaft, interference fitted into a hollow hub with bore rounded edges is examined: the contact is assumed to be frictionless. The aim of this work is to extend the field of application of a normalizing parameter introduced by Strozzi et al. (2011) for solid shafts, to the case of hollow shafts. Preliminary results obtained in the case of frictional contact are also presented. The stress concentration factors, predicted by means of Finite Element Analyses, have been collected in diagrams and mathematical formulations helpful for engineers.

Abstract
This contribution analyses the stress concentrations at the rounded edges of shaft–hub interference fits. An infinitely long hollow shaft, interference fitted into a hollow hub with bore rounded edges is examined: the contact is assumed to be frictionless. The aim of this work is to extend the field of application of a normalizing parameter introduced by Strozzi et al. (2011) for solid shafts, to the case of hollow shafts. Preliminary results obtained in the case of frictional contact are also presented. The stress concentration factors, predicted by means of Finite Element Analyses, have been collected in diagrams and mathematical formulations helpful for engineers.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
