The contemporary corpus landscape, which is now diversified and heterogeneous, reserves an important place for corpora of spoken language. Autobiographical narratives have been focused on in numerous research fields; however, their potential application to German as a Foreign Language (GFL) remains underexploited. The present article deals with a specific type of corpora of spoken language, autobiographical corpora. As shown by the contributions to this thematic issue, their use in teaching practice has revealed them to be a potentially highly valuable resource for both teachers and learners. The focal point of the present inquiry is thus to investigate how best use can be made of such corpora in pedagogic practice, with a view to optimising their impact and bringing out their multifaceted nature. This encompasses the analysis of orality in various forms and the reflection on topics of historical and social significance.

Abstract

The contemporary corpus landscape, which is now diversified and heterogeneous, reserves an important place for corpora of spoken language.
