Objective: Pulmonary surgery in veterinary medicine is becoming more and more frequent. As in human medicine, airway leakage and hemorrhage in the short and/or long postoperative period may occur. Our objective was to verify the efficacy of NBCA+ metacryloxysulpholane spray, a surgical synthetic glue, in the treatment of hemorrhage and air leakage by the pulmonary parenchyma during and after surgery. Study design: To verify the efficacy of the glue comparing aerostasis and hemostasis intraoperative times and long-term clinical and histological results of three different suturing techniques, two of which use NBCA + metacryloxysulpholane spray. Animals: 15 large white piglets of 35/40 Kg. Methods: After a partial pulmonary lobectomy, the suturing was done as follows: Group 1 (5 piglets) with a stapler and reabsorbable monofilament thread; Group 2 (5 piglets) with NBCA + metacryloxysulpholane spray; Group 3 (5 piglets) with a stapler and NBCA+ metacryloxysulpholane spray. The piglets were euthanized at 48 h (2 per group) and at 14 days (3 per group). Samples of pulmonary scars were collected from all subjects for histology. Results: The piglets did not have complications attributable to the surgery they underwent. Histology demonstrated that all the reparative processes could be considered somewhat overlapping morphologically. Conclusions: The surgical glue investigated, NBCA + metacryloxysulpholane spray, demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of hemorrhage and air leakage of the pulmonary parenchyma not only as a complement to conventional surgical techniques, but also as a unique aid. In particular, the advantage of the spray, which can be applied rapidly and demonstrated short and long term efficacy in obtaining excellent pulmonary blood-aerostasis, was observed.

Our objective was to verify the efficacy of NBCA+ metacryloxysulpholane spray, a surgical synthetic glue, in the treatment of hemorrhage and air leakage by the pulmonary parenchyma during and after surgery.
