Starting from the French “cineromanzo” of Europa '51, compared with some photographs and drawings published in film journals, this study investigates the possibility that in Rossellini's second feature film starring Ingrid Bergman there would be a scene set "under a pouring rain", perhaps shot in part or in full. In this case, the image of Ingrid Bergman hurrying in the rain to reach Giulietta's shack would have anticipated and even accentuated the physical transformation of her character. It is really difficult to recognize the same elegant woman seen at the beginning of the film – but also the Hollywood star Ingrid Bergman – bundled up in the raincoat that protects her from the rain, while she walks quickly in those flat shoes, careful not to slip. An even less flattering image than those scheduled shortly thereafter, following her experience of working in the factory.
