Through an examination of Eco's positions on ideology, the contribution reflects on the textual specificity of the semiotic approach to ideology, on the dialectic between individuality and collective subjectivities that ideological discourse produces, and on the illusory deceitfulness of ideological rhetorics. Particularly central will be the category of code switching.
