La fortuna delle sinopie staccate nella storia del restauro e dei musei: un primo bilancio critico

Sixty years have passed since the publication, for Electa, of Sinopie e affreschi, by Ugo Procacci. This book – published in the midst of the "Season of detachments” following the three well-known exhibitions organized in Forte del Belvedere (1957-58-59) – is the most important studio dedicated to these particular preparatory drawings for frescoes and had a serious impact for the history of restoration, the theory of preservation and the history of museums. The success of sinopie was great from the Sixties untill the end of last century for art studies and the new museums-set up. Now, everything is changed, because the taste is different than the recent past. It's the right moment to start a critical and historical review of the sinopie display in the italian museums and discuss their realtionship with the present and the future of the State collections.
