Embodiment in Translation Studies: Different Perspectives

Over the past few decades, the human body has been much more present in sciences and humanities, sometimes there is even talk of a corporeal (or body) turn. The body’s relevance is summed up fundamentally but not exclusively in the concept of Embodiment or Embodied Cognition. The core idea underlying these concepts is that the cognitive processes are deeply rooted in the body and in its interaction with the environment. The paper aims to contribute to the discussion of the potentials and implications of Embodiment theories for translation studies. The concept of Embodiment provides, we claim, a very useful and rich framework especially to the so-called Translator Studies, an emerging research field within Translation Studies, if it is brought back to its philosophical origins. Thus, in proposing the idea of Embodied Translating we suggest to turn the phenomenological understanding of the body back at the centre.
