We report a seven year old boy with congenital muscular dystrophy, epilepsy with periodic spasms, focal pachygyria, diffuse white matter changes and small brainstem. Diffuse periodic subclinical EEG fast rhythms were recorded for some minutes on awakening in several occasions. We discuss the possible significance of these unusual transient periodic fast rhythms.
