Rolandic epilepsy (RE) is the prototype of focal benign epilepsy. However recent studies have suggested various neuropsychological deficits relating to attention, language and visual motor abilities. We conducted a standardized neuropsychological assessment in 3 children with RE and with a marked activation of interictal epileptic discharges during sleep. IQ was normal; a learning disorder, with difficulties in reading, writing and arithmetic, was present. We emphasize the importance of a neuropsychological evaluation in RE.

Abstract
Rolandic epilepsy (RE) is the prototype of focal benign epilepsy. However recent studies have suggested various neuropsychological deficits relating to attention, language and visual motor abilities. We conducted a standardized neuropsychological assessment in 3 children with RE and with a marked activation of interictal epileptic discharges during sleep. IQ was normal; a learning disorder, with difficulties in reading, writing and arithmetic, was present. We emphasize the importance of a neuropsychological evaluation in RE.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
