Abstract

The cult of saints is an essential aspect of late-antique Christianity (III-VIII century), providing an indissoluble link between the material traces (bodies and relics) and the immaterial traces (dreams and visions) of the presence of the divine in the world. This paper will focus on the coexistence of the material and immaterial dimensions in devotional practices, which culminated in the cult of holy images.
