Following the lesson of Hermann Broch, Kundera constructs the structure of his novels in a musical way. This essay focuses on the aesthetic reasons behind the Kunderian conception of the novel as an art of composition; this through a comparison with the idea of «combinatorial» literature presented by Italo Calvino and with some recent experiments in “algorithmic art”.
