The state of the art of stereotactic surgery is reported with particular attention to robot-based surgical systems in order to highlight what are the technical limits still present. From this basic knowledge, alternative operating methods based on thermoplastic masks, already in use in radiosurgery, are proposed, which can compensate for these technical limitations and improve the experience for both the patient and the surgeon. In particular, two different solutions using the mask are presented. Finally, a comparison between the two solutions is discussed and possible future developments are outlined.

Abstract
The state of the art of stereotactic surgery is reported with particular attention to robot-based surgical systems in order to highlight what are the technical limits still present. From this basic knowledge, alternative operating methods based on thermoplastic masks, already in use in radiosurgery, are proposed, which can compensate for these technical limitations and improve the experience for both the patient and the surgeon. In particular, two different solutions using the mask are presented. Finally, a comparison between the two solutions is discussed and possible future developments are outlined.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
