In 1932 Marcello Piacentini, General Manager and Head Architect of the plan for the new campus of the University of Rome, called the “Città Universitaria”, launched a project to promote a methodical analysis of major national and international university complexes recently built. He entrusted engineers Gaetano Minnucci and Francesco Guidi, two of his collaborators at the Engineering Department of the CERUR (Consorzio autonomo per il completamento dell’assetto edilizio e l’arredamento della Regia università di Roma). Travelling extensively across Europe in the years 1932-1935, Minnucci and Guidi, visited many branches of U.S. colleges as well as the main European campuses; in Italy, they visited Padua, Pisa and Bologna. Guidi went to Bologna at the end 1934 to visit the School of Engineering (Scuola di Applicazione per Ingegneri) designed by Giuseppe Vaccaro. The blend of innovation and tradition made this building one of the major Italian models for the “Città Universitaria” in Rome.

Abstract
The blend of innovation and tradition made this building one of the major Italian models for the “Città Universitaria” in Rome.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
