This paper presents the user-centred process we followed to design in-vehicle human machine interfaces. In particular, we here describe the methodology we employed to design both the car dashboard and the infotainment system in the specific context of electric cars. We shared an online questionnaire engaging 143 users and we carried out two focus group sessions aimed to refine the created mockups, incorporating the users’ suggestions and feedback. The final design of the interfaces was implemented in an electric car developed under the TIME project, a regional founded project aimed to develop integrated technologies for electric mobility.

Abstract

This paper presents the user-centred process we followed to design in-vehicle human machine interfaces. In particular, we here describe the methodology we employed to design both the car dashboard and the infotainment system in the specific context of electric cars. We shared an online questionnaire engaging 143 users and we carried out two focus group sessions aimed to refine the created mockups, incorporating the users’ suggestions and feedback. The final design of the interfaces was implemented in an electric car developed under the TIME project, a regional founded project aimed to develop integrated technologies for electric mobility.
