Microstructure of male and female sagitta otoliths of the inner ear European anchovy from Adriatic Sea were analyzed by SEM. First data on the crystalline surface on sulcus acusticus showed morphological differences between sex at same length. Male otolith showed better defined crystallographic planes respect to female at same length. These microstructural differences between sexes could be related to different growth rate or way of life.
