The representation of landscape in different LSP and/or domain specific contexts. A quantitative approach. In recent years, the possibility of compiling highly specialised large corpora and / or the ready retrieval of authentic materials as well as the development of ever more sophisticated corpus-linguistic tools has opened new horizons in the study of language use. By focusing on the syntactic features of noun phrases containing the word and/or word element *landschaft* (engl. “landscape”) in three highly specialized subcorpora from different areas (history of art, environmental law and the promotion of tourism destinations), the paper examines and supports the hypothesis that the use of core vocabulary items is affected by microscopic LSP and/or domain specific regularities which can be detected with the help of fine-grained corpus linguistic analysis. Furthermore, the analyzed noun groups show clearly that the percentage of complex lexical units is very high in all three subcorpora, independently of their grade of specialization, and that the delineations between fixed and non-fixed word combinations are less defined than current grammar categories suggest. As will be shown, these findings open the way to look for translational candidates by the means of concgrams, i.e. the selective display of two or more co-occurrences.
