According to the methodological issues set out at Thucydides I 22,1 the speeches in his text are restored by the author, not mere rhetorical exercises. Thucydides writes them to reproduce the deep and core of willing and political ideas of the orators. So, the speeches show Thucydides’ true interpretation of deeds and war. He thought to find out the truth, but his truth is only a relative one.
