The practical side of interpreter education includes interpreting lessons that are based on a variety of source speeches of increasing degree of difficulty, which trainees learn to interpret by developing the required skills and abilities. Evaluation of their performance is carried out by their trainers and peers. Both feedbacks are functional to enhance their performance and understand their strong and weak points at a given point in time of their training. However, the author feels that the best catalyst conducive to improvements is self-evaluation and practice on genuine conference material with the possibility of comparing one’s own performance with that of professionals interpreting the same source speech. This opportunity is offered by the materials developed in the framework of the European Parliament Interpreting Corpus (EPIC) project. This paper will illustrate an EPIC-based lesson.
