This contribution picks up on discussions about Anglicisms in the German language and deals with the question of whether Anglicisms occur in computer mediated communication as frequently as is commonly suggested, especially by lay linguists and associations such as the Verein deutsche Sprache and the Stiftung deutsche Sprache. Although, as JÜRGEN SPITZMÜLLER (2007) has recently pointed out, Anglicisms may have a certain «speech appeal» (KARL BÜHLER), this paper demonstrates, on the basis of a descriptive analysis of a large corpus of weblogs kept by adolescents as a diary, that Anglicisms play only a marginal role in weblog-diaries, and that here one can hardly speak of a foreign infiltration of Anglicisms into German.
