The history of philosophy is a discipline of a problematic nature, characterized by an essential tension between historical research and critical deduction, between the alleged universality of philosophical ideas and the concrete identity of philosophical texts, between the general nature of philosophical problems and singularity of theoretical solutions, between the monographic study of the different authors, the research of historical or ideals genealogies and the reading of common themes, between history of the philosophers, history of their disputes, history of the philosophical questions and history of the systems. This article intends to present the various historical and philosophical interpretations of the philosophy of Descartes as an example of the various conceptions of the history of philosophy itself.
