La transmisión del proceso traductor a partir del análisis de paratextos: las traducciones al francés, inglés y español del "Tratado de los delitos y de las penas" de Cesare Beccaria

Cesare Beccaria’s On Crimes and Punishments, a short legal treatise published in Italy in 1764, was enthusiastically received throughout Europe, thanks to the work of its translators. The paratexts written by the translators or editors accompanying the first translations offer some interesting considerations on the translation process. In particular, they manifestly aim to defend certain translation decisions to the readers of the day as well as to other translators, with a view to disseminating Beccaria’s groundbreaking ideas in foreign societies. Specifically, this article will focus on some fragments of prefaces, notes, letters and other paratexts in French, English and Spanish, from the first French translation in 1776 to the Spanish edition in 1828.
