In this article I suggest some ideas about computer modeling of human intelligence and understanding. I put the problem in the frame of history of philosophy, especially as regards the period of the birth of philosophy of knowledge and philosophers such as Descartes and Leibniz. My purpose is to show that Turing’s ideas about intelligent machinery are still a very concrete paradigm with which one can face up to the hard question to evaluate present research in artificial intelligence and cognitive science, despite criticism raised toward them in the last sixty years.

Abstract
In this article I suggest some ideas about computer modeling of human intelligence and understanding. I put the problem in the frame of history of philosophy, especially as regards the period of the birth of philosophy of knowledge and philosophers such as Descartes and Leibniz. My purpose is to show that Turing’s ideas about intelligent machinery are still a very concrete paradigm with which one can face up to the hard question to evaluate present research in artificial intelligence and cognitive science, despite criticism raised toward them in the last sixty years.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
