This chapter presents a finite element method for describing lossless port-Hamiltonian systems defined on a one-dimensional domain. In particular, the discretized system is again a (finite-dimensional) port-Hamiltonian system, obtained by the interconnection of finite elements. After introducing the general method, examples and simulation results are presented.
