A review-essay that compares the sometimes conflicting influences of philological insight, market orientation and creative re-writing in the contemporary retranslation of a classic like Ulysses. Selected examples from Enrico Terrinoni's 2012 translation of Ulysses are contrasted with excerpts of Gianni Celati's translation, at the time of writing published in Italian newspapers, as well as passages from the previous translations by Giulio De Angelis and Bona Flecchia.
