In the last ten years Unmanned Autonomous Systems (UAS) gained a wide interest among scientific community. This is partially due to growing availability of low-cost solution to to guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) subsystems, allowing even small research groups to perform design and prototyping of UAS for both undergraduate and graduate teaching and research purposes. The aim of this note is to present the experience of the Flight Mechanics Laboratory in the field of UAS avionics design and prototyping. In what follow the research project aimed to Stromboli volcano monitoring and observation is first described. Then the avionic design and prototyping (including GNC hardware, communication system, and Ground Control Station) is presented in detail.

Abstract
In the last ten years Unmanned Autonomous Systems (UAS) gained a wide interest among scientific community. This is partially due to growing availability of low-cost solution to to guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) subsystems, allowing even small research groups to perform design and prototyping of UAS for both undergraduate and graduate teaching and research purposes. The aim of this note is to present the experience of the Flight Mechanics Laboratory in the field of UAS avionics design and prototyping. In what follow the research project aimed to Stromboli volcano monitoring and observation is first described. Then the avionic design and prototyping (including GNC hardware, communication system, and Ground Control Station) is presented in detail.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
