The year 1989 brought significant changes to the publishing market in Poland not only because it freed literature from censorship and led to what Janusz Sławiński described as “the disappearance of the center” (zanik centrali), but also due to the development of new technologies that accelerated printing and contributed to an increase in the number of publications, including anthologies. The category of the anthology can serve not only as an effective “diagnostic tool” for the Polish poetry written and published after 1989, but also – particularly in the examined period – emerges as one of the key determinants of its existence and functioning. This article offers an analysis of post-1989 Polish poetry anthologies – including those published over the past thirty-five years in Poland and Italy – that feature authors active during this period, while excluding the “old masters”, who represent a separate phenomenon and therefore fall outside the scope of the present study. This, in turn, prompts a reflection on the prevailing tendencies and the canon of the latest Polish poetry.
