The role of teachers and educators in the new scenarios: competencies, abilities, attitudes This contribution is part of the PRIN 2022 project "PCTO as a Tool for the Developing Personal Resources and the Contrasting School Dropout", which examines the impact of Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTO) on students' educational pathways, with a specific focus on dropout prevention. The study, based on a mixed-methods approach, involved five Italian secondary schools through a survey of 2,102 students and 27 focus groups. The findings highlight that when properly designed, PCTO can foster a dynamic learning environment and equip students with essential skills to navigate contemporary societal challenges. The role of tutors, both internal and external to the school, and the active involvement of students in co-designing these experiences emerge as key factors. The study underscores the need to rethink the role of teachers as learning facilitators, fostering educational processes that extend beyond the traditional classroom setting.
