Several experiences of the Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) conducted within the degree programs in Pedagogy and Management of Educational Interventions in Social Distress at the University of Bologna have highlighted recurring questions regarding the pedagogical and political meaning of this theatrical methodology. This contribution aims to explore the relationship between theatre, pedagogy, and oppression, emphasizing the transformative potential of TO in higher education contexts. Particular attention is given to the centrality of the process, collective self-education, and the political dimension of the theatrical experience as crucial dimensions to sustaining the pedagogical value of TO.
