La complémentarité verbe-nom dans la dénomination de concepts du domaine artistique : Étude de 3 paires verbe-nom dans Le Vite de G. Vasari et ses traductions en anglais et français

This article examines the complementarity between verbs and nouns as denominations for concepts in the artistic domain, based on three verb-noun pairs—dipingere/dipinto, ritrarre/ritratto, and disegnare/disegno—taken from the Italian text of G. Vasari’s Vite, aligned with its 19th- and 20th-century English and French translations. The one-to-one correspondence between denomination and concept can be called into question when the denominations are lexical units taken from natural language and subject to linguistic variation, particularly in the case of derivation. The concepts which these verb/noun pairs designate fit into a coherent conceptual network and can be considered as terms within the artistic domain. However, contrastive analysis reveals that these related verb/noun pairs are not simple denominative variants, since one or the other can designate the concept in a more abstract way, with a broader polysemic potential leading to differentiated interpretations in translation.
