This study analyzes the presence of Dürrenmatt's theater on the Catalan stage, by focusing specifically on the reception of Romulus the Great, his second play and the first to go beyond Switzerland’s national borders. First, the author and his global impact are introduced. Next, his theatrical trajectory in Catalan is examined, marked as it is by early successes but also long absences from the stage. In Catalonia, Romulus the Great was not performed until 2005, and overall, Dürrenmatt’s work has had a meager presence. The play was enthusiastically received by critics, which is an indication both of its literary value and of the enduring relevance of its message against any form of imperialist or supremacist ambition. However, despite the increase in performances in the 21st century, no new works have been translated. This stresses the need for further studies in order to understand the complex causes of this absence.

Abstract
This stresses the need for further studies in order to understand the complex causes of this absence.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
