Per una storia del Centro Alti Studi Militari (1949-1969)

The essay reconstructs the structure, functioning and evolution of the Centro Alti Studi Militari. Founded in 1949 by the Minister of Defense Pacciardi, over the next twenty years the Casm significantly contributed to select the leaders of the Italian armed forces. However, its nature changed over time: from a «school of republicanism» aimed at converting the mostly monarchical officer corps of the late 1940s; to an institute in charge of developing a national defense strategy against external, as well as internal threats. Understanding the reasons and forms of this mutation is crucial to reconstruct a more general history of the military institution of republican Italy.
