This article examines the concept of the paradigm in language sciences, revisiting its theoretical and practical relevance. It highlights the paradigm’s dual role: structuring linguistic systems through classifications and enabling dynamic meaning-making through tensions and analogies. Drawing from Hjelmslevian and Saussurean traditions, the text explores paradigms as more than rigid taxonomies, framing them as sites of negotiation between linguistic identity and discursive practice. The article also discusses paradigms’ intersections with syntax, their potential for fostering innovation, and their resonance in non-verbal languages. Ultimately, it advocates for paradigms as critical tools in understanding the interplay of structure, meaning, and transformation in language.

Abstract
This article examines the concept of the paradigm in language sciences, revisiting its theoretical and practical relevance. It highlights the paradigm’s dual role: structuring linguistic systems through classifications and enabling dynamic meaning-making through tensions and analogies. Drawing from Hjelmslevian and Saussurean traditions, the text explores paradigms as more than rigid taxonomies, framing them as sites of negotiation between linguistic identity and discursive practice. The article also discusses paradigms’ intersections with syntax, their potential for fostering innovation, and their resonance in non-verbal languages. Ultimately, it advocates for paradigms as critical tools in understanding the interplay of structure, meaning, and transformation in language.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
