This paper explores the reception of Marie Darrieussecq in Italy, focusing on the role of the editorial peritext and of the epitext in the transmission and mediation of her works. To date, Marie Darrieussecq has built up a remarkable corpus of texts, both for their quality and for their diversity in the themes tackled and in the stylistic and narratological choices. However, of her rich production, which spans from 1996 to the present, only five novels and an essay have been translated into Italian by Guanda, and a sixth novel by Einaudi. The analysis focuses in particular on the peritexts of the Italian editions and on the reviews published in several general-interest newspapers, considered here as epitexts. The study sets out to investigate the reasons why some of Marie Darrieussecq’s works were translated into Italian, the way they were presented by the publishing houses, and their reception by literary critics, by carrying out an interdisciplinary analysis at the crossroads of literary, translation, and publishing studies and the sociology of culture.
