This article serves as an introduction to the monographic section of Autonomie locali e servizi sociali, which aims to analyze the Right to University Education. The objective is to provide an overview of the measures adopted by policymakers, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses. Among the successes is the increase in scholarships, while challenges include insufficient student information, delays in scholarship payment, and a shortage of affordable housing. When combined with the continued impact of social inequalities on students’ decisions to pursue higher education, it becomes clear that a critical analysis of the Right to Education is highly relevant from both a policy and academic perspective. The selected essays address these issues from a multidisciplinary approach, employing both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess the effectiveness of policies related to the Right to Education, with a particular focus on their impact on university participation and academic performance.
