The MADTECC 2024 chairs welcome you to the 1st Workshop on Medical Applications with Digital Twins and Edge-cloud Continuum - MADTECC 2024, held at PerCom 2024. The aim of the MADTECC workshop is to discuss novel research and heat the experience reports on the advancements of digital twin technologies and approaches for the edge-cloud compute continuum, specifically in the context of medical and e-health applications. Recent advancements in computer science have led to novel approaches in software design and execution, notably through the concept of digital twins mirroring physical objects. These intelligent, pervasive systems allow for continuous real-world observation and parallel digital execution, fostering responsible device operation. While digital twin execution may strain resources, dynamic infrastructure enables edge or central network processing based on application goals. Medical fields stand to benefit greatly, demanding high fault tolerance, availability, ergonomics, and security. Digital twins offer enhanced patient comfort, precise medical decisions, and real-time context awareness for critical scenarios, aiding physicians and patients, especially with inhome care and chronic disease management. Altogether, MADTECC 2024 received eight submissions, of which four exceptional papers have been thoughtfully included in the workshop's agenda. We wish to express our gratitude to the MADTECC technical program committee for their meticulous and insightful reviews, which have enabled the development of an engaging program. Additionally, our appreciation goes to the PerCom organising committee, particularly the workshop chairs, publications chairs, and general chairs, for their valuable support. We extend thanks to all authors and workshop attendees for their contributions and active participation. We encourage everyone to enjoy the workshop and foster new collaborations.
