This chapter focuses on the right to play, internationally established by Article 31.1 of the 1989 New York Convention on the Rights of the Child. In more detail, recalling the metaphor employed by Henrik Ibsen in his play A Doll’s House, the paper examines the danger that toys and dolls incorporating artificial intelligence systems pose to the autonomy of the child, emphasising the importance of his/her protection against the dictates of the market and its «neo-liberal epitumogeny» (épithumogénie néolibérale).
