Sixth-generation cellular networks (6G) are expected to involve data communications and sensing capabilities, enabling a wide range of applications. This paper proposes a novel dual-functional shared aperture reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) design that enables the coexistence between radar sensing and millimeter wave (mm-wave) communication. In this paper, we analyze sensing capabilities by evaluating the Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) performance, and use these results as an input for RIS hardware design with mm-wave radar on a shared aperture, which is evaluated in near and far field.

Abstract
Sixth-generation cellular networks (6G) are expected to involve data communications and sensing capabilities, enabling a wide range of applications. This paper proposes a novel dual-functional shared aperture reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) design that enables the coexistence between radar sensing and millimeter wave (mm-wave) communication. In this paper, we analyze sensing capabilities by evaluating the Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) performance, and use these results as an input for RIS hardware design with mm-wave radar on a shared aperture, which is evaluated in near and far field.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
