Abstract

Fifty years after its signing, the commitment to protect and safeguard the Cultural and Natural Heritage signed in 1972 with the UNESCO Convention in Paris is confirmed as a collective effort in which the international community has a duty to participate, in response to the transformations and global challenges affecting historic monuments and sites. This is a complex and constantly evolving framework, with respect to which digitization and ICT infrastructures can provide valid support for the conservation, preservation and valorisation of cultral heritage resources, with a view to their transmission to future generations. In order to open the reflection on the necessary policies, skills, approaches and strategies, a significant contribution is represented by the activities of the Horizon 2020 project "4CH - Competence Center for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage", aimed at creating the methodological, procedural and organizational framework of a European Competence Center which will provide support, knowledge and services on digitization and cutting-edge integrated technologies applied to Cultural Heritage.
