Starting from the mapping and documentation of all Etruscan inscriptions in the Po River valley area for the CIE project, this contribution relies on an updated and unprecedented framework. It allows us to define an innovative line of research in epigraphic studies, based on a multiscalar and systemic approach to documentation. The methodology is context-based and emphasises qualitative over quantitative data. Paying particular attention to the themes of palaeography and onomastics between the 6th and 5th centuries BC, the study analyses the dynamics of self-representation among groups utilising writing within communities and the relationship among them. Particular attention is paid to the processes and dynamics of change underlying graphic reforms, leading to the differentiated adoption of the corsivizzante type by almost all Po valley communities. The investigation of these changes runs parallel to the onomastic study, which reveals how writing is practised by male groups belonging to the élite, while women, with few significant exceptions, seem to hold a subordinate role.

Abstract
The investigation of these changes runs parallel to the onomastic study, which reveals how writing is practised by male groups belonging to the élite, while women, with few significant exceptions, seem to hold a subordinate role.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
