The present work describes the results of an extensive experimental campaign on the flexural behaviour of fibre-reinforced concrete prisms. Three-point bending tests were run on notched beams containing different types and quantities of steel and polymeric fibres. Tests were conducted according to EN 14645:2005 and EN 14845:2006. The experimental results have shown how geometrical and mechanical properties of the fibres affect the tensile strength of fibre-reinforced concrete. In fact, the efficiency of fibres in transferring stress through the crack controls the tensile strength of the fibre reinforced concrete. The data collected during the tests have been used as the input for an inverse analysis procedure based on a simple analytical model of the cracked section, aimed at defining the stress - crack-opening relation of the fibre-reinforced concretes.
