The discussion on the method of the Null Hypothesis Significance Testing (NHST) has been generally restricted to the statistical domain. However, the NHST is a method of knowledge acquisition that is applicable to all levels of scientific investigation: (1) theoretical elaboration; (2) phenomena measurement; (3) data analysis. The alternative approaches to the NHST must be applicable to all levels. The aim of this review is to describe two different methodologies (converging evidence and multiple hypotheses) which allow achieving valid results at any stage of psychological research.

Abstract
The discussion on the method of the Null Hypothesis Significance Testing (NHST) has been generally restricted to the statistical domain. However, the NHST is a method of knowledge acquisition that is applicable to all levels of scientific investigation: (1) theoretical elaboration; (2) phenomena measurement; (3) data analysis. The alternative approaches to the NHST must be applicable to all levels. The aim of this review is to describe two different methodologies (converging evidence and multiple hypotheses) which allow achieving valid results at any stage of psychological research.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
