This chapter sets out to present a snapshot of the state of the art of the practice of screen translation at the end of the first decade of the noughties. After a brief introduction to the area of screen translation, I shall provide a rough road map of the translational modalities available to end users of screen translations across Europe and discuss a series of problematic issues concerning the reception and perception of these translated products. Other issues, largely brought about by the hegemony of the English language and the financial power of north American cinematic and television industries, will also be examined. Finally, a series of proposals of how input from scholarly research from academia could be fruitfully exploited by European industries will be provided.
