This paper presents the Italian experience with regards to the school integration of students with disabilities. This practice has been used many decades. Currently, 1.52 % of student are known to be living with a disability and 97.80 % of these students are integrated into regular classes. The legislation and the instruments (functional diagnosis, functional dynamic profile and customized educational programs) are explained. The results of research done on the attitude of teachers, school friends and parents with respect to the school integration of disabled students are discussed. The research clearly indicates that the direct experience is a factor that fosters integration.
