Statues, automatons, mannequins and dolls in the short stories of Emilia Pardo Bazán The aim of this paper is to study the use of some terms related to the animate/inanimate constellation in the short stories of Emilia Pardo Bazán. The writer records in her journalistic essays the mixture of fascination and rejection produced by artifacts endowed with movement that mimic the human figure. Images of articulated Christs, humans who become of resemble statues, automatons, mannequins, dolls appear in the stories as mute presences or as paragon terms.
