Definition of a set of indicators addressing the safety performance of offshore upstream activities in the Italian seas

Safety is one of the main factors in the sustainable exploitation and production of hydrocarbons. Monitoring and communication of safety performance of the Italian offshore Oil&Gas installations is a top priority which can be effectively supported by the definition of a system of key performance indicators. The main goal of the project titled “Indicator for Offshore Safety” is the definition of a set of indicators quantifying and monitoring over time the different aspects of offshore safety performance in the upstream industry. These indicators can be used singularly, in order to monitor specific aspects, or combined in a composite indicator, in order to obtain a comprehensive picture of the evolution over time of the safety performance in the sector. Since December 2017, the definition of the indicators was consolidated, alternative formulations of KPIs were developed in order to enhance the different aspects of information present in the raw data (frequency indicators vs. last-event indicators), and the array of indicators was tested.
